Appetizer
Robert Sinskey, Abraxas, 2009, Los Carneros
Abraxas, the ancient god of the 365 heavens – this crisp blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc captures the natural expression of the Carneros region of California’s wine country with crisp fruit, excellent minerality and acid balance that enhance cheese, vegetables, seafood and olives.

    Editor's Note:

For the ¡Comidas Sabrosas! section of Ventanas magazine, El Paso restaurateur and wine retailer, Mark Heins, shares his choice of wines that pair well with the holiday menu featured in this issue.

Salad
Christian Audigier, Special Edition Rosé, 2007,
Coteaux du Languedoc

From French Fashion Designer and winemaker, Christian Audigier, this bright rosé of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah is simply perfect with this salad – even btter if you add a touch of French goat cheese from the Pyrenees.

Entrée - Venison
Turley, Mead Ranch Zinfandel, 2007,
Atlas Peak, Napa Valley

Freshness allied with serious power, concentration and fruit is apparent in this deep ruby-colored Zinfandel. The wine exhibits outstanding fruit intensity (briery black currant and black cherry notes), a striking minerality, full-bodied power and an enticing, zesty exuberance – enhancing the richness of the venison.

Entrée - Goose
Orin Swift, Saldo Zinfandel, 2008, California
Saldo is rich, ripe and full-bodied, with aromas of black cherry and bramble fruit. The tannins are soft, but the wine has a huge mid-palate with a soft, lush finish – perfect for pairing with holiday goose in a stewed fruit chutney.

Dessert
Rotta, Zinfandel Port, 2005, California
The only port in the world made from selected Zinfandel grapes, fortified with 100-proof Zinfandel “brandy.” A wonderful finish with hints of chocolate that enhance the true Zinfandel fruitiness pairing perfectly with this dessert.
