When the Garcia family decided that they wanted a custom built home, the decision of which builder to use did not take long. The family saw a home built by ICON Custom Builder at the Parade of Homes and knew right away that ICON was the builder they wanted. Once the family talked to Juanita Garcia from ICON Builder, that decision was confirmed. "The connection with Juanita was instant. She knew what we wanted more and was flexible enough to accommodate our needs within our budget. We wanted a lot of special details and she was very patient. I can go on and on talking about our experience with Juanita, which actually turned into a friendship. She is such a smart and cool person," says Mrs. Garcia.

Because ICON builds custom homes, the homeowners are given the opportunity to choose the floor plan, the style and all of the amenities of their home, resulting in a truly unique home that fully meets their needs and reflects their style. For the Garcias, these decisions were not difficult because they had such a solid sense of their style and their needs. "The Garcias were such easygoing people who were great to work with," says Carlos Garcia of ICON Custom Builder. "They had a really good idea of what they liked and the amenities they wanted. The whole project went really smoothly."

The attention to detail that went into building the home is obvious throughout. The exterior of the house is unique with an extended porch and circular driveway that was inspired by a house in Puerto Rico where Mrs. Garcia grew up. "I said to myself, some day, I will have a house with an extended porch like that," she says. This particular characteristic was a challenge for ICON due to the lot size and the budget; however, Juanita and Carlos worked until they made it happen.

The exterior also displays the importance that the Garcia family put on color. Color was especially important for Mr. Garcia, who chose the deep, rich colors of the stucco, the driveway and the garage, which, along with the stone accents, really add a warm, welcoming feeling to the home. A custom niche with a wrought-iron design also sets the home apart with a unique touch.

While the outside of the home has a Tuscan elevation to meet the neighborhood covenants, the Garcias went with a more contemporary/transitional style on the inside that is both modern and elegant with an open floor plan that helps the family have more time together. Because the kitchen, living room and dining room are all in one big open space, the family members can be together even if one is cooking, one is doing homework and another is watching television. Large doorways and tall ceilings on the interior of the home also add to the spacious, open feeling of the home. The floors of the home are travertine tile, an aspect that the family loves because of the look of the natural stone.

Because the Garcias are not very "formal" people, they chose to have only an informal dining area in their house. However, this space is made special with a colorful modern painting and rug and unique, dainty track lighting that really personalizes the space. In addition, a diagonal coffered ceiling adds an interesting design element. "This was Charlie's innovative creation," says Mrs. Garcia. "Since they had never done one before, we didn't know if we would like it or not. Charlie was very accommodating in offering: 'Hey, I will build it and if you guys don't like it, I will tear it down and change it to the traditional beams or squares.' Now it's one of the coolest elements and we like it."

The living room features a striking entertainment center that includes stack stone with a firebox insert, as well as a niche for their flat-screen television. In addition, it also contains a built-in bar with a wine rack, a place for wine glasses and a hidden pullout shelf for liquor. This area, designed by Mrs. Garcia, is cozy and perfect for entertaining family and friends.

A bar with fun, modern barstools and pendant lighting separates the kitchen from the living and dining rooms. The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, including two ovens, a pantry and an island with a built-in wine cooler. There is a beautiful contrast in colors with dark cabinets and spacious light-granite countertops.

The Garcia's daughter's bedroom is a vision in pink with a bright pink accent wall, pink zebra-striped bedding and adorable pink polka-dot lamps. This room also keeps with the modern feel of the home with a sleek three-blade ceiling fan and a bathroom that has a cobalt blue sink and black and white accent tiles.

A chocolate brown recessed ceiling in the master bedroom and rich colors accented throughout give the room a warm atmosphere that spills over into the master bathroom, which has a magnificent slate tile backsplash on one wall that is full of glistening colors. The curved accent walls and the abundance of stone make this bathroom feel like you are entering a spa.

Of course, this spa-like atmosphere continues outdoors where the Garcias have an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace, a heated pool and a hot tub. The outdoor space was Mr. Garcia's inspiration. The family has enjoyed many cozy meals and wine in front of the outdoor fireplace listening to music on their outdoor NuVo sound system.

For the pool, the Garcias wanted "something different, contemporary and asymmetric, with a spa." The Garcias hired Paradise Pools because they have a graphic design computer presentation that lets you see the whole concept of the yard with pool before it is even started. This assured them that the design that they wanted would work with their space.

From front to back, the Garcia home is full of details that make their home unique to them and their family. Their closeness, their warmth and their fun sense of style are apparent throughout their home and can be felt by all who enter it. ///
